High production ambitions....
Symington's is responsible for packaging dried rice, pasta, soups and sauces, and supplies to all the mainstream supermarkets in the UK, including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys.
Production demands have opened the doors for innovative, new application methods through advanced technology, which Videojet has assisted in developing over the last 11 years.
Symington's installed a new line to keep up with increased production on their soups and sauces. New ultra high-speed form, fill and seal equipment required an advanced coding system that provided speed and accuracy to keep up with the 850 sachets per minute production.
The site decided the Videojet laser's were the product best suited and invested in three 3320 laser marking systems; one used for ablation on the form, fill and seal machine, while the other two were using the innovative new laser receptive ink application method.
Symington's were impressed with the capabilities derived from the new application method.
Keith Williams, Chief Engineer, said: It's all about the speeds on this line and the Videojet laser with the laser receptive ink was the only product to keep up. It has increased our secondary packaging production from 75 to 500 boxes per minute.
Using laser receptive invisible ink onto plain cartons (which reacts upon contact with the Videojet laser beam), meant huge savings on time and money.
We have reduced our stock of boxes from 26 to just 2, we've no consumable spend, no downtime like we had with the inkjets, plus we've removed the need for added cleaning and maintenance.
The return on investment for Symington's was under 12 months!
